Navigating STCU’s reorganized website

Where to find the classified ads, and other areas of interest

The credit union has grown a lot in the last five years. And while we don't think we got too big for our own good, we definitely got too big for our old homepage.

Over time, the STCU.org homepage had become jam-packed with too many links. And too many ads. And in trying to make it convenient for you to find absolutely everything right there on the homepage, all the congestion had actually made it difficult to find anything.

And so we’ve reorganized the website.

Five tabs across the top

  • Accounts/Home. If you're logged into online banking, this tab will take you to your Account Overview page. If you're not logged in, the tab takes you to the STCU.org homepage.
  • Saving, Borrowing, Spending, and Belonging. They’re four topics we think all members should take seriously. So into each of those four categories we’ve put much of our very best information — products, services, news, member best-practices, advice, rates, specials, forms, calculators, and more. And within each tab, you'll find links down the left-hand column and resources in the right-hand column to help you get to the exact information you need.

Five links across the bottom

These aren’t throw-aways, like on lots of sites. They’re at the bottom of every page, because they’re useful from every page.

  • Contact us. Important phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
  • Locations. Branch hours and addresses. Shared branches and ATMs, too.
  • Self-service. Information about online banking, mobile banking, and telephone banking.
  • Help. Technical assistance and security advice.
  • Site map. The entire STCU.org website, at a glance.

So where are the classified ads?

Here’s where you’ll find some of the most popular content areas on STCU.org:

  • Classifieds. Find them under “Belonging” and “Power of Cooperation.” Along with community involvement, the classified ads are one of the benefits you get when you put the resources of 87,000 members together. From anywhere, type “Classifieds” into the search box and you’ll go straight there.
  • Chat. It’s the first item in the “Resources” box in the upper right corner of nearly every page. Click “Chat with us online” to pop open a window and start chatting with an STCU representative during normal business hours.
  • Calculators. Savings and retirement calculators are under “Saving.” Loan and mortgage calculators are under “Loans.”
  • Employment. Under “Belonging” and “Get involved,” click “Work for STCU.” Current openings and an online application are available right from this page.
  • Financial education. Resources especially designed to help kids and teens learn about money will be moving to sites of their own — watch for news about that. Information to help adults become better money managers will be increasingly situated behind “Saving,” “Borrowing,” and “Spending” — as you might guess.

The same navigation, inside or outside of online banking

The same tabs and menus are available to you once you log into view your account balances or perform online banking transactions. Which is perfectly fine, since the same security that protects your online banking session has been extended to the entire site. That means, once you’ve logged in and are looking at your balances under the “My Accounts” tab, you can click on the “Savings” or “Borrowing” tabs to find out product information without logging out. Hop right back to your balances by clicking the “My Accounts” tab again. Easy, secure navigation — no matter where you are.

Share your feedback

Some folks will love the changes, others — not so much. We do our best, even though it’s impossible to please all of our members all of the time.

If you like the changes, let us know by writing an e-mail to onlinemedia@stcu.org. If you want to vent about the things you don’t like, write to that same address. Good or bad, we’ll factor your feedback into our next round of website adjustments, likely in early 2011.
