The royal court of the Spokane Lilac Festival has named the Teachers of the Year for their inspiration and contribution to excellence in education. STCU sponsors the award, now in its seventh year.
Representatives of the festival and STCU presented the awards in April and May at the schools of the seven local teachers. The teachers will ride in the Teacher of the Year float at the 71st annual Lilac Festival Armed Forced Torchlight parade on May 16.
Recipients are:
Members of the 2009 Lilac Festival "I Love a Parade" Royal Court nominated teachers who had a significant positive impact on their journey through high school.
"This teacher knows how to put things into perspective," Said Alexis Green of Cheney High School. "How to be devoted and strong minded. But, the best qualities this teacher has are the simple fact of genuinely caring for others and is not judgmental to any of the students or other staff members."
"It was clear that Mrs. Ringold was not out to get us with pointless hours of excessive work, but truly wanted us to succeed," said Aimee Furrie of Mead High School.
The 2009 Teachers of the Year instruct a variety of subjects, from leadership to English, sports medicine, and Bible. They share a passion and a connection that inspires students to work harder and to give more. Congratulations!
Look for the Teachers of the Year at the torchlight parade at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, May 16, in downtown Spokane.
