(Ponderay, ID) - Community members and staff celebrated the recent grand opening of STCU's Bonner County Branch, with a $2,500 donation from STCU to the Panhandle Alliance for Education for its adoption of the national Ready! for Kindergarten program.
"Our primary focus is on the relationship we have with our members and supporting the communities where they live and work," Sherri Richardson, manager of the credit union's 13th branch location, said during the February 3 celebration. "We are thrilled to support the Ready! for Kindergarten program."
The early childhood literacy program, which serves families in the Lake Pend Oreille School District, is designed to dramatically impact children's ability to read and do math. STCU's donation will enable more than 40 local families to experience the program, and help provide classes, books, and educational toys for the enrolled families.
"The Panhandle Alliance for Education is very pleased to see STCU join our community," said Bill Berg, alliance president. "This generous donation speaks volumes about their willingness to participate in the health of education for our children."
The Bonner County Branch is located north of Sandpoint at the Ponderay Crossing of Kootenai Cutoff Road and Highway 95. It will employ three people, all residents of North Idaho.
STCU is a not-for-profit cooperative serving 78,000 members with checking and savings accounts, home and car loans, credit cards, ATMs and commercial loans. In addition, the organization has forged a business services department to handle a growing number of real estate loans, lines of credit, and checking accounts for small business owners.
