STCU and you: More than $30,000 raised for children

Another record-setting year

[February 28, 2011]

Thanks to STCU members and employees, and a Miracle Match from Co-op Financial Services, Children’s Miracle Network has $31,396.48 to spend helping Inland Northwest children. That's the amount raised through STCU efforts in 2010.

Your contributions help kids facing serious challenges at 10 organizations in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Each Year, Children's Miracle Network hospitals nationwide treat:

  • 6 million children for accident trauma
  • 49,000 children for cancer
  • 45,000 children for heart defects and problems
  • 1,300 children for sickle cell anemia

Zach Donovan, who lives in west Spokane, was a beneficiary of local fundraising and the 2010 Children's Miracle Network "champion child" for the state of Washington. In 2008, Zach was backed over by a dump truck while was riding his non-motorized scooter in a quiet street near his home. He nearly died following the accident, and then had to relearn to walk during his long recovery with a permanently damaged pelvis.

Zach spent eight weeks at Sacred Heart Medical Center undergoing numerous surgeries, followed by a year of physical therapy at St. Luke's Rehabilitation Institute – both hospitals are beneficiaries of Children's Miracle Network. Additionally, Zach was able to purchase a Wii with gift cards he was given by Children's Miracle Network. Not only was he able to play video games during his time spent at Sacred Heart, the Wii was perfect for when it came time for him to start moving again. Games like bowling and tennis "helped him get up and around," said Dan Donovan, Zach's father.

Today, Zach helps raise awareness for Children’s Miracle Network.

"Children's Miracle Network did a lot for me," Zach says

Thank you for your generous support of STCU's fundraising efforts for Children's Miracle Network.
