South Valley Branch planned

Branch near University High School set to open by year's end

[July 11, 2011]

Ground-breaking for STCU's South Valley Branch is planned at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14. The branch, located near University High School at 13211 E. 32nd, is scheduled to open late this year and will be STCU’s second in the city of Spokane Valley.

Baker Construction & Development is the contractor for the 3,496-square-foot branch, which is designed to meet U.S. Green Building Council standards for LEED Gold certification for sustainable building and development practices. The building designed by Nystrom+Olson Architecture will feature elements of craftsman styling that are familiar throughout the Spokane area.

It will be the 15th branch for the region’s largest member-owned, not-for-profit credit union. In 2008, STCU opened its 12th branch at Liberty Lake. There were two more ribbon-cuttings in 2009, for the Northtown Square Branch in Spokane and the Bonner County Branch in Idaho.

"South Valley Branch will be a convenient alternative for many members who now use our Valley Branch, as well as new members in the rapidly growing area," said Terri Wilson, STCU vice president-operations.

With a current population of 91,836, Spokane Valley is expected to grow by about 16,000 people in the next 20 years, according to the city’s comprehensive land-use plan. Growth also is expected south of the city limits, in the Freeman School District.

While more than half its 95,000 members use the credit union's increasingly popular website for much of their banking needs, the personal service offered at STCU branch locations remains key to fulfilling the credit union’s vision of being "the most loved and valued financial relationship on earth."
