Online banking for a new generation

Safe, secure, and free to every STCU member

In the world of technology, 1997 is ancient history. Less than 1 percent of humanity had Internet access and just 11 percent of Americans carried cell phones. And STCU launched online banking.

Today, three out of four Americans access the Internet and half-including more than 40,000 STCU members-use it to check their account balances, transfer money, and conduct other transactions.

With every indicator that online and mobile banking activity will continue to grow, STCU has upgraded our online banking service to ensure that you have access to the next generation of features and financial tools. It offers great features, such as:

  • The convenience of alerts to warn when your account balance is getting low, or when it's your wedding anniversary.
  • The familiarity of account names that you select yourself.
  • The compatibility to accommodate transfers between your STCU accounts and those held at other financial institutions.
  • The security of private messaging, so STCU staff can help with your account questions.
  • The flexibility to sort your transactions by name, date, or type, just like a spreadsheet.
  • The agility to bounce between STCU borrowing, saving, and belonging information without opening new browser windows.

OK, so what's not changing?

Good question. Here are three things that won't change after the launch of STCU's new online banking:

  1. The cost. Online banking-and STCU's billpay-will continue to be free of charge to any STCU member!

  2. Ironclad security. In fact, the new system will be more secure after you upgrade your password, increasing the odds that no one will ever hack your account.

  3. Access. Online banking will continue to be available to you 24 hours a day from your computer or handheld device.

Getting started

STCU's new online banking will save you time and require fewer clicks, but let's be honest. Change can be challenging at first. It may take you three or four times to get used to it.

If you bank online at STCU, we sent a 16-page booklet to your home, showing you the basic steps to get started and how to use some of the great new features. You can also view our online demo.

With the booklet in hand, our online resources and staff available through LiveChat or the STCU telephone service center, you're all set to give it a try!

Early steps

Out of all the great features offered with our new online banking, we recommend you use three of them, right from the start:

  1. Set up display names for all your accounts. It's a lot easier to manage accounts, if the names make sense to you. For instance, you may prefer the names "checking" and "savings" instead of "share draft" and "regular share." You might want to call one of your S1 accounts "college" and another "Hawaii." You might want call your auto loan "Ford." It's entirely up to you.
How to do it: After logging in to online banking, click on "Account" in the left-hand column. Enter your preferred names in the "Display Name" boxes, then click "Submit Changes."
  2. Set up links to your external accounts. You can use online banking to make transfers between your STCU accounts and those at other U.S. financial institutions.
How to do it: After logging in to online banking, click on "Link an Account," then provide the requested information. Once we've verified your external accounts (a process that can take three business days), they will show up on your STCU Account Overview list, simplifying your money management.
  3. Set up an alert for the account you use most. For instance, you may want to be notified by e-mail (or other means) whenever your checking account drops below $100, or when your Visa balance tops $2,000. That can save you from over-spending or overdrawing an account.
How to do it: After logging in to online banking, click "Alerts." The "Add Alert" pulldown gives you two options: "New Account Alert"" lets you set your own thresholds and method for notification for any of your accounts. "New Date Alert" helps you remember important dates, like your wedding anniversary, a birthday or an appointment.

Update your contact information

To ensure a smooth transition to STCU's new online banking, please verify and update your contact information. Here's how to do it:

  • Log in to online banking.
  • Under the "Preferences" heading, open the "Update Contact Info."
  • Verify or update your phone numbers, e-mail address, street or postal address.
  • If you make changes, enter your member password and click on "Continue." Otherwise, simply navigate away from the page.
