Concerts under the stars

STCU joins sponsors of The Festival at Sandpoint

[July 3, 2009]

Picking huckleberries. Boating on Lake Pend Oreille. Hiking the high country.

No matter how you choose to spend a Bonner County afternoon, you can enjoy another North Idaho tradition in the evening.

The Festival at Sandpoint is hosting its summer concert series August 6-16, with a lineup that includes country, rock, blues, and swing. Among those performing on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille are such familiar names as Clint Black, Blues Traveler, Boz Scaggs and Firefall.

The Festival at Sandpoint hosted its first concert in 1983 as a way to bring symphonic music to the community. By the 1990s, it was drawing such big names and diverse styles as Johnny Cash, Lou Rawls, Emmy Lou Harris, and Peter Frampton.

It's now one of the largest arts organizations in Idaho, reaching across all musical genres, while continuing the tradition of an annual concert by the Spokane Symphony. A low-priced family concert also is an annual tradition.

The non-profit Festival enjoys broad business support, in part because it gives back to the community. Among its offerings are music workshops for all fifth graders in Bonner and Boundary counties, and a program to provide musical instruments to sixth graders.

STCU, which earlier this year opened its Bonner County Branch just north of Sandpoint in Ponderay, Idaho, is among the Festival's proud sponsors.

Tickets and information are available at the Festival at Sandpoint or by calling (208) 265-4554.
