STCU announces University District branch.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Teachers Credit Union plans to bring financial services this fall to thousands of students and faculty at the University District east of downtown Spokane.

The Inland Northwest's largest credit union will open its ninth branch in the historic Schade Towers next to the WSU Bookie store and across the street from the Riverpoint Higher Education Park.

U-District Branch is open!

The University Branch opened Tuesday, October 11. Use the outside ATM day or night, or visit with a Member Service Representative during these office hours:

  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The University District branch will provide a 24-hour, deposit-taking ATM for members and nonmembers of the credit union. The STCU branch also will offer consumer and business lending services during regular business hours at the 4,000-square-foot office. The branch will employ up to 20 people.

"Students and teachers don't have time to go looking for a place to deposit a check or make a loan application, so we're coming to them," said Steve Dahlstrom, president and chief executive officer. "Our decision to open a branch is another sign that the University District is becoming the center of downtown research, higher education, and economic development."

The Schade (pronounced Sha-day) Towers is a landmark office, retail, and classroom complex developed by Baker Construction & Development Inc. The building is located at 528 E. Spokane Falls Blvd.

The University District is an area of classrooms, offices, shops, and research laboratories on both sides of the Spokane River. It generally borders Sharp Avenue to the north, Hamilton Street to the east, Interstate 90 to the south, and Division Street to the west.

The district is expected to grow to 11,000 students by 2010. It currently includes Gonzaga University, SIRTI Technology Center, and the Riverpoint Higher Education Park offices of Washington State University, Eastern Washington University, and the Community Colleges of Spokane.
