Don't let the grinch steal your ID

Scan your photo ID, update your STCU records

[Dec. 6, 2007]

In 1957, when Theodor (Dr.) Seuss Geisel released the book, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," he wrote that the Grinch took every holiday gift and decoration from the citizens of Whoville:

Pop guns! And bicycles! Roller skates! Drums!
Checkerboards! Tricycles! Popcorn! And plums!

Today's Grinch would likely also grab driver's licenses, credit cards, checks, and other personal identification. With these documents, any identity thief with a heart two sizes too small can make your credit a mess.

Let STCU help you prevent modern grinches from assuming your identity and accessing your financial accounts. Here are two steps to take immediately:

  1. Ask us to scan your driver's license into the STCU system. Once your license is scanned, STCU tellers at any branch can immediately check your photo if there are doubts about someone trying to access your accounts.
  2. Update your contact information at STCU. Provide your new cell phone number. Give us your new street and e-mail addresses. With updated contact information, our tellers can reach you immediately to check any suspicious activity.

STCU can fight ID theft, but we need your cooperation. Upgrade your contact information and ask an STCU representative to scan in your ID photo.

With your help, we can recognize a Grinch before he or she steals your identity.

Locate the STCU branch nearest you.
