Viral meningitis case confirmed at STCU

Employee tests positive after being hositalized

[May 8, 2009]

An STCU employee was hospitalized on Wednesday, May 6, and has since tested positive for viral meningitis.

According to the Centers for Disease Control the risk of contracting viral meningitis from being exposed to the disease is small, and there is no legal requirement or protocol to report this case.

However, STCU is informing its staff and members about the illness so that they can seek medical consultation if they are concerned about exposure. While HIPPA regulations mandate the person’s name be kept confidential, we can tell you the employee worked on April 27 – May 1 at STCU’s Cheney Branch, and on May 6 – 7 at its Main Branch.

Anyone who has been exposed and feels ill (headache, stiff neck, fever) should consult a physician.

In addition to public notification, STCU has disinfected all work and public areas and is offering hand sanitizer to staff and members.
