KHQ, Eastern Washington University, Qudoba and Sylvan Learning Center, partner together during the school year recognizing outstanding educators throughout the Inland Northwest. The team travels to schools in both Washington and Idaho honoring teachers in both traditional and non-traditional teaching roles.
The selection process is very simple-students write a letter telling why a particular educator is special. In other words, "What makes him/her a great teacher?" The letter is reviewed along with dozens of others and a winner is selected each month during the school year.
Then the celebrating begins! An "all school assembly" is planned to reveal the winning teacher and many times the teacher's family joins in-waiting in the wings. The "Teacher of the Month" is announced with great fanfare! The school's superintendent makes a congratulatory speech and both the teacher and the nominating student(s) are honored.
