STCU opens Airway Heights Branch

Unprecedented growth continues for regionís largest credit union

[August 21, 2017]

STCU's newest branch location features solar panels, a free book exchange, and a tribute to members of the U.S. armed forces.

The 3,894-square-foot Airway Heights Branch opens August 23 at 10811 W. Highway 2, in the Hayford Crossing development.

It is the 21st branch location for STCU. That includes two branches that opened in 2016 at Qualchan and in downtown Coeur d'Alene, and a newly constructed home for STCU's Downtown Spokane Branch.

Four new branch locations in two years mark the busiest period of construction in STCUís 83-year history, notes Tom Johnson, CEO and president. At the same time, use of STCU online banking and the STCU mobile app is increasing steadily, as have calls to the credit union's Liberty Lake Contact Center.

"Branches remain an important touchpoint with STCU members, despite their increasing reliance on technology," Johnson said. "Even tech-savvy members want to see an STCU representative when they have questions or are doing complicated transactions."

Designed by Bernardo/Wills Architects PC and constructed by Meridian Construction & Development, the Airway Heights Branch is designed to meet standards for LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Among its resource-saving features are solar panels positioned over the drive-through.

Outside the branch is a star-shaped seating area built around a 55-foot flagpole. Each point of the star pays tribute to a branch of the armed forces. Inside is a children's corner with the book exchange, and a West Plains mural by Spokane photographer Dean Davis.

Stephanie Luby, a 17-year STCU employee who was raised in Airway Heights, is the branch manager.
