It’s in our DNA. STCU is you.
STCU is a credit union, a not-for-profit financial cooperative that operates as an association of people coming together for a common purpose. Some deposit money. Some borrow it. Some do both. Either way, we’re organized to help you make sense of your finances.
A handful of Spokane teachers launched the credit union in 1934, but now anyone can join who lives, works, worships, or goes to school in Washington state or Bonner, Boundary, Benewah, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce, or Shoshone counties, Idaho. At last count we had more than 157,000 members.
Members pool deposits at STCU, then we loan it to other members. Deposits are federally insured to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration.
When a bank makes a profit, they give it to shareholders. When STCU makes a profit, we invest it back into the cooperative.
That’s good for you. It means you earn higher dividends on your savings and pay less for a loan. It means we can launch some cool new services without having to worry whether they make a chunk of change for the credit union. Some examples include free online banking and billpay, shared branching with other credit unions, and financial education for students, teachers, and hardworking people like you.
And our employees are crazy about serving your local community. They love to tutor school kids, prepare holiday gift baskets for the needy, walk to raise money for cancer research or just to be part of a festive community parade. They give to a host of great causes and make suggestions every week for how we can improve your credit union.
If you're an STCU member, you’ve probably felt the love. If you’re looking for a financial institution that reflects who you are, consider joining us.
After all, STCU is you.
