How do I join STCU?

Become a member of STCU, the No. 1 credit union of the Inland Northwest. Before you begin your online membership application, check the eligibility list below to see if any of these apply to you:

1Membership eligibility.

  • You’re an STCU neighbor. We’re based in Liberty Lake, Wash., but if you live, work, worship, or attend school anywhere in the state of Washington or North Idaho counties of Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce, or Shoshone, you can join STCU.
  • Your relatives are eligible. If you are related by blood, marriage, or adoption to anyone who meets the eligibility requirements described on this page — even if they have never joined the credit union! — you can join STCU.
  • You’re a college student. If you are a student under the age of 18, or you are attending a college or university in the state of Washington or any of the North Idaho counties listed above (“You’re an STCU neighbor”), you can join STCU.
  • You work for an STCU Community Business Partner. If you work for a company that has joined STCU as a Community Business Partner, you can join STCU.

If you qualify under one of the categories listed above, you can join STCU online (if you are at least 18) or by stopping in at any of our branch locations. For more information regarding the documentation and identification required to open a new membership at a branch location, please contact  the STCU Contact Center.

Can my business join?

Yes! You can join as a business member — and open your accounts at the same time! It's easy to do.

Contact us to schedule an appointment with a member of the STCU Commercial and Business Services team. Make sure to check the list to assemble all the necessary tax identification and documentation you'll need to complete your membership.

Our team will help set up your membership and review with you the options for reaching your business goals.

Do I have to be a teacher to join STCU?

You do not have to be a teacher to join STCU. If you live, work, worship, or go to school in the state of Washington or North Idaho (Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce, or Shoshone counties), or have relatives who do qualify for membership, you are eligible to join the credit union. See "How do I join STCU."

If you qualify for membership, you can easily join STCU online (if you are at least 18) or by stopping in at any of our branch locations.

How much does it cost to become an STCU member?

With some exception, there is a one-time membership fee of $10 for members who are 18 and older, and $5 for students who are 18 and older — a modest price for lifetime membership with the No. 1 credit union in the Inland Northwest.

There is, however, no membership fee for those under 18, for employed educators, or for anyone who chooses to become a member online! (An "employed educator" includes anyone who works for a school, college, or university. Membership fee also is waived for any joint owner added to the educator's membership at the time of opening. The joint owner does not have to be educator.)

Employees of a qualifying Community Business Partner (check with your employer) also receive free membership. Visit our membership page to view eligibility requirements as well as the rewards and advantages of becoming a member of STCU.
